Jen contacted me last fall through email, as she lives in Colorado. She loved our website and contracted us to photograph her wedding without meeting us in person. To be honest, I was a little nervous to book a wedding with a couple I had not met. We stayed in touch over the winter and finally had a chance to meet and discuss the last minute details a couple days before the big day. We meet and get to know the nicest people while shooting weddings. One of the best things about being in this business are the friends you make along the way. Briana is one of our 2009 Brides, but she's also become a great friend. We were thrilled for her when we heard she was expecting. Needless to say, we were really excited to catch up with her and document her pregnancy. The weather held off just long enough to create a few outdoor portraits. Then we headed inside and set up our traveling studio in her family room.

Geoff and I had been wanting to photograph a winter wedding for quite sometime when we met up with this wonderful couple. I think my face must have lit up when they said their wedding date was in January! The light here in winter has a special quality to it and I believe snow only enhances it further. So, we were really looking forward to working outside for their portraits. However, the Minnesota temperatures can be pretty extreme. Nicky and Tommy's wedding day high temperature was minus 2 degrees. Yes, I said -2 fahrenheit. However, this didn't slow them down at all. They were absolutely fantastic and wanted to go outside for their portraits. I'm so glad that they were hearty Minnesotans because the photographs are beautiful. Take a look for yourself...

The Signature Wedding Album • Shelly + Matt

I love getting mail and just about my favorite thing to get in the mail are my clients wedding albums. Many, many hours of design and handmade craftsmanship go into making these custom signature albums and they are simply gorgeous. You can't tell from the photographs how well made they are, or how substantial they feel, or the softness of the Italian leather. These are true heirlooms made with archival photographic prints. About half of our couples select a wedding package that includes an album, which offers a great savings compared to purchasing one a la carte sometime after your wedding. I often find myself wondering if my other clients have made an album, and if so, what type. What does it look like? After all, your album is your true finished work of art.

Shelly and Matt's album is a 10x10 Signature Flushmount album with black leather, a metal cameo cover, and silver spine imprinting. Here are a few photos of the album details and I've included a couple of the spread designs, too.

The morning of Crystal and Andrew's wedding the Twin Cities was hit with a massive blizzard. After trying to contact them, we began our drive to Waconia. The snow was falling so rapidly that even the highways were covered. We were the first to arrive at the church and discover the lights were out. The caretaker found us a flashlight and informed us that the power lines were down so they didn't have any electricity. Thus began our most memorable wedding to date. Crystal and Andrew arrived shortly after us with smiles on their faces and proceeded as planned without heating or lights. A huge thank you goes out to their pastor, who allowed us to use flash throughout the entire service. Here's a sampling of Crystal and Andrew's memorable day.

One day in November I received an email inquiry from Annie, who was 34 weeks pregnant. She had found my website and wondered if I did maternity/belly photographs. The answer was Yes I do. Maternity sessions are really special and I enjoy capturing the interaction between the soon-to-be parents. Then I like to focus on the upcoming Mom's excitement and connection to her baby. When the weather cooperates, the session includes both outdoor and indoor studio photography. The weather and light were amazing, so we started on location near Annie's house. As the sun set, we returned to her house and set up our traveling studio.

As Jill & Aaron's wedding day got closer and closer, I was more and more excited. As I mentioned in my previous post, I absolutely love fall weddings. They're always dear to me, as Geoff and I were married in October, oh so many years ago. The weather was absolutely stunning, Jill and Aaron looked fabulous and we had a wonderful time doing their couple session after an emotional first look. Then it was on to the wedding party, followed by family portraits, the ceremony, and then off to the reception. In addition to the popular events - toasts, cake cutting, and the first dance, we captured a special choreographed wedding party dance that was amazing - brought down the house. From getting ready to the first dances, the whole day was full of emotions, probably the most touching wedding we've been honored to document yet. There's a new type of portraiture that's gaining in popularity. Some call it Trash the Dress, others call it Day After or Just Married sessions. We like to call it Rock the Dress. It's a smaller version of a Fine Art Album, made with the same care and designer options as a full sized album. If you're not familiar with boudoir sessions, you've been missing out on a growing trend. Boudoir means bedroom in French and refers to sensuous, flirty, and classy portraiture. I think I jumped for joy and did a little dance when I saw the UPS box on my front porch. It felt like I'd been waiting for months and months and finally they were here. I selected a new album company at the end of the year, after falling in love with their quality, looks, and options. I really can't say enough wonderful things about them. We were so excited when Briana contacted us about her upcoming wedding in Walker, Minnesota. I had an instant interest about their wedding plans, as I'd spent many years up in the area. Plus, they had selected Chase on the Lake for the reception, which was an old historic hotel downtown that I knew was undergoing a renovation. The day of the wedding, October 10th, everyone in Walker woke up to a thick blanket of snow. Even in Minnesota, that is pretty early and a rare sight. Briana and David took it all in stride and calmly moved their outdoor park ceremony inside to the hotel. The snow didn't bother them at all. In fact, I think it made everyone party and dance all the more.

Yes, it's true. I've been behind the times. Very behind the times. I just spent the last few hours figuring out how to make a blog. I'm feeling my age, as I realize even my younger brother probably knew how to do this years ago.

Anyway, moving on...I'm looking forward to sharing some of my favorite images from our 2009 weddings and portrait sessions. 2010 will be a big year for Snowfrog Photography, as we expand our wedding collections and add an absolutely fabulous line of albums to our product offerings.
